HopTechnic®

HopTechnic® is a subsidiary of Virgil Gamache Farms, Inc. Created several years ago to ensure the quality of hops grown for VGF under the Amarillo® brand, HopTechnic® has evolved into a fully functional laboratory that performs a wide range of testing.

Yes, HopTechnic® is an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited lab and offers several accredited tests as part of our scope.

What tests are involved in the Hop Assessments

Generally, hop assessments involve analysis of color, moisture content, alpha/beta acids, total oil and terpenes as well as aroma analysis.

Where/When do I drop off samples?

Samples can be dropped off at or shipped to 6371 Ford Rd Toppenish, WA 98948. During harvest, we accept samples M-S from 7am to 5pm. Off-season samples are accepted M-F from 8am-4pm. If shipping samples, please contact us for shipping requirements.

  • Harvest Timing AssessmentInquire Within
    Field samples are monitored by the lab to help track and determine ideal harvest windows.
  • Aroma Assessment$225/sample
    Terpene content and aroma assessment for a hop sample
  • *Agricultural Water Testing$25/sample
    Agricultural water samples may be submitted to the lab and tested for the amount of E. coli and coliforms present, in compliance with FSMA, Global G.A.P. and Green Chief practices. The lab will provide year end feedback regarding microbiological levels in tested water.
  • Comprehensive Hop Assessment$300/sample
    Features all offered hop tests for a submitted sample.
  • Quantitative Hop Assessment$80/sample
    Alpha/beta, total oil, moisture content analysis of hop samples

Single Hop Sample Tests

  • *Alpha/Beta Acids$40
    Submitted samples are tested for alpha and beta acid content by HPLC
  • *Iso-Alpha Acids$20
    Upon request, a sample submitted for alpha/beta acids may also be tested for iso-alpha compounds at an additional charge.
  • *Moisture Content/Dry Matter$20
    Samples are tested for the amount of moisture.
  • Aroma Analysis$125
    Aroma is evaluated and presented in a spider diagram
  • Total Oil$30
    A sample is tested for the total amount of oil present.
  • Terpenes Analysis$80
    Upon request, a submitted sample may be tested for the composition of the hop oil at an additional charge.
